Friends

My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.- Henry Ford

Throughout our lives, we come into contact with more people than my mind can fathom. And yet out of all of them, a few stand out from the crowd and earn the title of acquaintance. From those, an ever fewer amount earn the right to be called a friend.

For me, being considered a friend is a pretty high honor. Being a friend can be the hardest job there is; listening without judgement, accepting them despite all their faults, defending their honor on blind faith and choosing to hide your own feelings to protect theirs. All of these things represent only the tip of the iceberg that is a true friendship.

Some friends are female, some are male. Some are loud and outspoken and some prefer to keep quietly to themselves. Some you see daily and some you see when the stars align and the universe smiles. Some become husbands and some become wives. Some are introduced by birth and some are introduced by chance. Despite all the combinations of how they may differ they have one thing in common... they are there for you whenever they need you. Whether it be a visit, an email, a phone call or even a phonetically spelled text, they let you know they are there for you no matter what.

That is the kind of friend I want to be. That is the kind of friends I have.

Whether you are in the same neighborhood or in another country, nothing changes.

To all of you, and you know who you are, thank you. My life wouldn't be as fun, as rich or as wonderful without you in it. Because of you, my cup runneth over.

Excellent post, it really spoke to me. What you write about is exactly the friend I want to be.

And you're right about distance being irrelevant. Friends are friends.
